On Monday, I was invited to speak to the Illinois Association of Realtors about legislative proposals that will impact the housing market in Illinois. Thank you to Collin Cisco, Local Governmental Affairs Director, Mike Oddenettal Past President (IAR), and all of the other brokers and agents who made me feel welcome.
My first bill as a legislator was HB 5145 to tie the Senior Exemption and long term exemption for homeowners to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). That bill is in the House Rules Committee awaiting assignment to a substantive committee for a hearing but doesn’t look promising. I will work to get the language into another bill or there is an outside possibility the bill could get called during veto session in the fall.
HB 5416 is my first bill to make it out of the House which passed unanimously and awaits action in the Senate. This is a consumer protection bill on mortgage information for potential buyers. This is an example of a bi-partisan piece of legislation that is possible when everyone works together.
