Rep. Hamilton House Resolution Designates ‘Gold Star Spouses Day’

SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Sandy Hamilton (R-Springfield) passed House Resolution 692 through the Illinois House on Wednesday evening. The Resolution declares April 5, 2022 as Gold Star Spouses Day in the State of Illinois. Video of Representative Hamilton’s presentation can be seen below.

WHEREAS, April 5th marks Gold Star Spouses Day for 2022; and

WHEREAS, Gold Star Spouses Day developed from Gold Star Mother’s Day, which began in 1936; in 2010, Gold Star Wives Day was created to honor the sacrifices made by military spouses; the day was later changed to Gold Star Spouses Day to be more inclusive; and

WHEREAS, In 1947, the gold star lapel button was approved by the U. S. Congress; the pin is a gold star on a purple background and represents service members who died in combat; it is presented to the spouse or next of kin along with the national colors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 5, 2022 as Illinois Gold Star Spouses Day; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express our gratitude to Illinois Gold Star Spouses for the sacrifices they have made on behalf of our nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to the Governor of Illinois and the Director of the
Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.
